Song of the Day: Blood On The Ground, Incubus
...so thanks, elizabeth, for actually taking note of my poem. theoretically, all the meter works out, but the spondee in line one is for emphasis on the easy changeability of youths' hearts (hence the long "mut-" rather than some other word), and there are a bunch of ellisions in line 5, including a hiatus. i'll mark it up as best i can on the computer. "_" will be long, "," can be short. "/" marks feet and "//" marks caesura.
...actually, having marked it up a bit so far, i'll just list the ellisions:
line 3, verum-et
line 5, petere-ullo
line 5, ullo-antro
line 5, solacium-amore
line 5, where antro and atro would usually ellide, there is the caesura, and, therefore, a hiatus, for style
_ _ / _ , ,/_ , , /_ //, , /_ _/_ ,
liber vix etiam deus est, iuvenes mutantur
_ _ /_ _ /_ //_ , ,/_ , ,/,
cordis inflectis fallaciter facile.
_ _ /_ , ,/ _ _ /_ //_ / _ , ,/_ _
confundi tibi falsas iam verum et rationes
_ _/_ _ / _//_, , /_ , ,/,
aestates sed provexere semper, ais;
_ , , /_ _ /_ _ /_ _/_ , ,/_ ,
te petere ullo antro atro solacium amore,
_ _/_ _ / _//_ , , /_ , ,/,
aestates sed provexere semper, ais.
...oh, and pretend like the spacing worked out.
